Omamoo Wango Gamik (‘All Our Relations’) opened in 2020. It is a family site that includes young families, mosoms (grandpas), kôhkoms (grandmas), aunties, and uncles. This model has proven effective in helping families stay together while keeping children out of the Child & Family Services (CFS) system.

Under the Residential Tenancies Act (RTA), residents experience independent living, benefit from offered supports, and have the opportunities to build a sense of community.

The building:

  • contains 42 supportive housing units;

  • includes one and two bedroom apartments as well as five two-bedroom townhouses;

  • has a dedicated housing support worker;

  • offers access to cultural supports and Ceremonies through regular visits from the NiGiNan Cultural Team;

  • features a programming room complete with a kitchen and access to a roof-top patio and garden; and

  • is located in the diverse and historical Belvedere neighbourhood in Northeast Edmonton.

Every Canadian deserves a safe and affordable place to call home. With today’s announcement, 42 families will have homes near the services they need. This is a great example of the National Housing Strategy at work,
— Ahmed Hussen, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development and the Minister responsible for Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), September 2020
